David Walter Banks recently shot a story on Gibson, Ga. residents who recently lost their only bank, First City Bank, which was shut down after serving the community for more than a century. First City Bank was the latest in a string of failures in Georgia, which over the last year has had the second-highest number of banks go under, after California. To check out the story, click here.
Kendrick Brinson’s Facing South photo essay, which is still a work in progress, has been featured on Italian blogger Fabiano Busdraghi’s Camera Obscura. Busdraghi includes artists from around the globe and lets them give their voice on technique, style, or even their current labors of love. Check it out here.
Slaby recently travelled to Arizona to photograph fomer GITMO guard, Terry Holdbrooks, for this week’s issue of Newsweek. Holdbrooks converted to Islam, in part, because of his experiences at the detention facility. The article about is available online, here.
Matt Eich photographed Georgeann Wells in Dublin, OH for The Weekend Journal. Wells set the record for first woman to dunk during an intercollegiate basketball match, 25 years ago. The only documentation however was a video taken by the opposing team’s coach, who was so ashamed that he hid the tape. It was only recently uncovered.
David Walter Banks shoots for The FADER Magazine issue #59 and #60. The most recent issue, currently on newsstands, features rap’s bad girl Nicki Minaj on her tour bus before a big New Year’s Eve show. The previous issue featured one of up-and-coming rapper Homebwoi. Keep an eye out for the next issue too which will have another shoot from Banks which is still under wraps.
Luceo Images photographers Kevin German and Matt Eich took home awards from the 66th annual POYi Awards, judged at the University of Missouri. Kevin won 2nd place in Sports Feature Story and an Award of Excellence in Olympics Feature Single for his Beijing Olympics coverage. Eich won the Community Awareness Award, one of the premiere categories in the contest.
